Ron and Char Smith in Motorcycle Accident
On Friday May 13, 2005 our Chapter Directors, Ron and
Char Smith were headed to Spokane for a Motorcycle
Safety Rally. Shortly after leaving their home in Desert
Aire, they were struck by a driver that failed to yield.
Char and Ron were airlifted to Wenatchee. Ron was
stabilized and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in
Seattle later that evening. Char could not survive her
injuries and passed away several hours later.
Ron was
transported to Harborview where he underwent multiple
surgeries. He has been undergoing physical therapy to
prepare for his prosthetic lower left leg which he received on Friday, September 9, 2005. He has moved back to Desert Aire after spending time in Harborview Medical Center, Prosser Hospital and staying with his son in Grandview.
You can send him emails of support at rons@yakimavalleywings.com.
A website has been set up to inform friends and family of his progress. http://www3.caringbridge.org/wa/ronsmith
We have also written a letter to encourage the prosecution of the woman who killed Char and permanently disabled Ron. Click here to download.
